alcea rosea

yucca filamentosa: not everyone likes these, but easy to grow in dry spots: tall white flowers that remind me of orchids

echinacea: great in border but also very suitable in a planter or pot

anagallis monellii 'skylover' (blue pimpernell): more intense blue cannot be found in a flower - use as groundcover or in a pot

typical summer flowers for dry and sunny spots:

alcea rosea (hollyhock) and lavendula

hollyhocks are biennials and self-sow so every second year they appear somewhere else in your garden.

acanthus mollis

acanthus (bear's breeches) has very tall spiky flowers that attract bees and other insects

easy to grow in any condition, full sun to full shade

only drawback: they spread...

nerium (oleander): easy to grow in a large planter, blooms for months...

flowering olive tree - wondering if they will end up as olives...

lavendula

ah lavender, the color, the scent

they do not like wet feet so plant them in some gravel for drainage

eremus stenophyllus (foxtail lily): torch like flowers that look like they emit light in the evening

dactylorhiza alpestris orchid in the Swiss alps

flowering grapevines - a little late this year, end of june - they have a scent! a roselike smell, unbelievable...

how quick they grow: only a couple of weeks later plenty of budding grapes appear (mid july)

end of july: grapes are 'plumping up'...
